When the Plate Is Too Full: A Tuesday Check-In
Written by Michael Gardner, Founder/Developer of Coach Roger
You woke up this morning and the list was already longer than the hours you have to live them. Same patterns. Same quiet frustration when you look at the clock and wonder where the morning went and why you feel like you are perpetually three steps behind your own life.
Let’s be honest about something the internet loves to gloss over: you have already tried the planners. You have downloaded the apps. You have read the articles telling you to wake up at five in the morning and drink lemon water while journaling about your big audacious goals. And none of it fixed the fact that the day is simply heavy, and you are tired.
Being stuck is not a character flaw. It is what happens when the gap between where you are and where you think you should be gets wide enough that the whole system simply shuts down to protect itself. Your brain is not broken. It is exhausted from trying to meet a standard that was never designed for a human life in the first place.
Shame tells you that you are just lazy, or undisciplined, or lacking willpower. Shame is a liar. It is the heaviest thing anyone carries, and it never motivates anyone to do anything except hide. When you feel like you are failing, the last thing you need is another lecture on discipline.
What you need is permission to drop half the things you are pretending you care about.
Consistency beats intensity, always. A modest thing done regularly outperforms an ambitious thing done twice before you burn out and abandon it entirely. But consistency does not mean running yourself into the ground every single day until your shoulders live near your ears.
Self-respect is built on small promises kept. Not grand gestures or sweeping life overhauls. Tiny promises, kept on bad days, each one a deposit in the bank of self-trust. The content of the promise matters far less than the keeping of it.
If you are staring down a Tuesday that feels too big for you, try this instead of a ten-step recovery plan:
- Pick one single thing that actually matters today and let the rest of the list burn.
- Drop your shoulders away from your ears and take one deliberate breath where the exhale is longer than the inhale.
- Drink a glass of water without scrolling through your phone while you do it.
- Say out loud, to nobody, that it is okay to be tired.
The goal is reconstruction, not transformation. Nobody is broken and nobody needs to become a different person by next Monday. You are just putting the pieces back together in a shape that fits the life you actually have, right now, on a Tuesday when the world is asking for more than you brought.
You do not need to fix your entire life before lunch. You just need to be kind to the person carrying it.
Take it one small step at a time today. I am right here with you in it.
Michael
