When Monday Feels Heavy: A Gentle Stress Reset

Written by Michael Gardner, Founder/Developer of Coach Roger

Hey everyone, Michael here.

I am sitting here looking at my coffee cup on this Monday morning, and if I am being completely honest with you, my to-do list is staring back at me with a bit of a glare. Mondays have a funny way of arriving with a rush of expectations, don't they? Even if you love what you do, the transition from the slower pace of the weekend back into the rhythm of the week can feel startling.

If you woke up today feeling a tightness in your chest, a knot in your stomach, or just a heavy blanket of fatigue, I want you to take a slow, deep breath and hear this: you do not have to tackle everything today. You don't even have to tackle most things.

When I built Coach Roger, I did it because I needed a tool that didn't demand perfection from me on days like this. I wanted something that wouldn't scold me for missing a streak or overwhelm me with aggressive productivity hacks. True wellness isn't about crushing your goals seven days a week. Often, it is about giving yourself permission to slow down when the world is speeding up.

If stress is running the show for you right now, please remember that it is entirely normal. Life gets loud, and our bodies and minds register that noise. Of course, if you are going through a deeply difficult time, feeling consistently overwhelmed, or struggling with your mental health, please know that Coach Roger is a wellness companion, not medical care. If you are in the US and things feel too heavy to carry alone, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. Support is always available.

For the rest of us just navigating a tricky Monday slump, let's try something remarkably small. We don't need a total life overhaul this morning. We just need a tiny anchor to help us land back in our bodies.

Here are a few gentle steps you can take right now, wherever you are:

  • Drop your shoulders: Right now, notice if your ears are playing tag with your shoulders. Gently let them fall down and away.
  • Unclench your jaw: Separate your teeth slightly and let your tongue rest softly at the bottom of your mouth.
  • Take one intentional breath: Inhale slowly through your nose for a count of four, hold for a moment, and let it out through your mouth like you are blowing out a birthday candle.
  • Pick one tiny anchor: Choose just one small task for the next hour—not the whole day, just the next hour—and let everything else wait in the waiting room.

That is it. No grand gestures required. Just a quiet moment of reclamation in the middle of a busy week.

Be gentle with yourself today. If all you do is breathe and keep your head above water, that is more than enough. I'm right here with you in it.

Warmly, Michael
